CURATE CARES IS OUR ORGANISED MINISTRY, WHICH WAS CREATED TO HELP THOSE IN NEED IN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND ACROSS THE WORLD. IT’S ALL ABOUT KINGDOM-CENTERED WORK LOCALLY AND GLOBALLY, FROM FOOD PROGRAMMES TO GLOBAL MISSIONS, ADDICTION RECOVERY TO CHURCH PLANTING.
At the very heart of Curate Cares is a deep belief that gospel-centred service to those in need must be rooted in partnership and reciprocity, commitment and sustainability, learning and empowering - and that these, by the power of the Holy Spirit, are what brings about true and lasting transformation in individuals, whānau, and communities.
We encourage you to find out more about our Curate Cares projects and ministries below, and to pray and consider how you could join together with us to help bring more of God's Kingdom to earth both in our local communities and a far.

RECOVERY
CURATE RECOVERY IS A SAFE SPACE WHERE PEOPLE CAN HEAL, FIND COMMUNITY, AND FIND FREEDOM FROM ADDICTION THROUGH THE LOVE OF JESUS AND A 12-STEP FAITH BASED PROGRAM.
Most Wednesdays from 6.30pm-9pm, more than 70 people from all walks of life gather at the Manaaki Centre in Tauranga. The nights consist of connection, worship, sharing stories, prayer, workshops with a registered psychologist, and therapeutic support groups, and then we gather for kai at the end to help build community.
Parents can also bring their tamariki to Manaaki Kids where they get to play and learn about God’s love while their parents are finding healing through the programme.
It's all free, and no registration is needed - just turn up. We would love to see you!

I got clean 14 years ago and attended narcotics anonymous; I relapsed; I got clean again, joined a men’s recovery group, I lasted four years then relapsed. I was tired of falling over and getting back up again. My brother (Pastor Paul) got in touch with me and told me about Recovery and what God had changed in his life. I came to Recovery and felt so at home. There were people like me who had tried rehab, self support, church groups; felt they didn’t belong or fit in. Recovery has all these elements plus more: worship, acknowledgement, leadership, discipling, fellowship, whānau - all under the guidance of the Lord.

GIFT OF GROCERIES
EVERY DECEMBER SINCE 2015, WE HAVE BEEN PACKING AND DISTRIBUTING HAMPERS OF FOOD TO PEOPLE AND WHĀNAU IN NEED. OUR HAMPERS ARE PACKED WITH LOVE AND CONTAIN PANTRY STAPLES, DINNER ESSENTIALS, AND A FEW TREATS.
We partner with over 75 community organisations, including Plunket, Women's Refuge, low decile schools, and our Curate Pastoral Care team, to ensure these hampers go to those who need them most.

You could get involved with Gift of Groceries by being a part of the pre-event organisation team throughout the year, or join us for packing and delivery in December.
“One mother immediately fell to the ground crying when we arrived with the hampers. They are a very large whānau who are in extreme poverty, so being able to give her children this food brought the tears flowing.”
- Family Works
“I dropped off a box to a family who were under a lot of stress as Dad was in hospital. This act of kindness enabled me to have an open door to come back and visit the wife and children after Dad died a week later, to offer emotional and spiritual support.”

KIDS WINTER WARM UP
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH STONEY CREEK, THIS BI-ANNUAL PROJECT DISTRIBUTES BRAND-NEW STONEY CREEK POLAR FLEECE CLOTHING PACKS TO HELP KEEP KIDS WARM IN WINTER.
Each pack includes fleece pants, an overshirt, and a beanie, and we partner with over 75 community organisations and schools throughout the Bay of Plenty and Auckland to ensure they get to tamariki who need them most.
A highlight of this project is hosting a Family Fun Day, where recipients and their whānau are invited to come and enjoy a sausage sizzle, hot chocolates, face painting, bouncy castles, craft activities, and photos with their favourite super heroes - all for free! Each child then heads home with a happy heart and their warm Stoney Creek clothing pack.

“The wonderful gifts of winter clothing packs were a welcome surprise for our safe house and community families. The excitement that we saw and heard from the children was awesome to experience. It was a blessing to be able to awhi, tautoko, and manaaki our families and children in this way.

ARATAKI COMMUNITY MEAL
EVERY TUESDAY NIGHT AT 6PM, WE HOST A COMMUNITY MEAL IN PARTNERSHIP WITH TE KĀINGA CHURCH, AT THE ARATAKI COMMUNITY CENTRE. THIS IS A TIME TO FEED AND PRACTISE WHANAUNGATANGA WITH INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES FROM AROUND THE ARATAKI AREA.
Using donated food from Good Neighbour, our amazing teams prepare and serve a nutritious two-course meal for around 80 people each week. This community meal has been running for over 10 years, and throughout that time a beautiful sense of connection and manaakitanga has grown within the community.

ELDERLY MINISTRY
WE LOVE THE PRECIOUS ELDERLY PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITIES, AND HONOUR THEM FOR THE WISDOM, INSIGHTS AND STORIES THEY CARRY.
It is our privilege to host small church services at three local rest homes each month around Tauranga, providing a space for the residents to learn about Jesus, sing hymns, receive prayer, and experience fellowship. Services usually run on a Monday or Tuesday morning, three times per month.
Keen to get involved?
You could get involved with our Elderly Ministry by helping with music, teaching, and praying and talking with the residents.
PAMPER DAYS
A FEW TIMES EACH YEAR, WE HOST A SPECIAL DAY FOR WOMEN WHO HAVE COME OUT OF ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS, WHERE THEY CAN BE PAMPERED AND SPOILED AND FEEL GOD'S LOVE TOWARD THEM.
We tell them how God doesn’t make mistakes and how He wants to restore them and give them a future full of hope, love, and peace. Each woman is pampered with a delicious lunch, a make-over, a creative pottery session, and they are given a goodie bag and a few new outfits to take home too.
Keen to get involved?
You could get involved with Pamper Days by helping with hair or make-up, styling outfits, catering, hosting, or pre-event organisation.

GLOBAL MISSIONS
MEXICO TRIP WITH CURATE
10th - 20th AUGUST 2024 (Completed)
Our team had an amazing time serving the local community in Cabo with the Roberts family, through building work on the YWAM base and visiting a local orphanage. We hope to do another similar trip in 2025 so check back here soon!
RUEL FOUNDATION
Ruel Foundation’s vision is to heal, cure and love children in need. They operate three orphanages in the Philippines, and there are opportunities to fund children’s surgeries, the repairing of facilities, and sponsor children.
Volunteers can go on outreach with the medical teams, and help with repairs, maintenance and childcare too. You can also arrange to volunteer with Alexandra who is currently serving there for 2024 - see “Missionary Support” section below.

BEYOND US FIJI
In recent years, cyclones have inflicted extensive damage on many islands in Fiji, including the area of Savusavu on the island of Vanua Levu. Our teams have regularly travelled to Savusavu to rebuild homes, guest accommodations, and an orphanage, while also building relationships and instilling hope in the local community. The guest accommodation is a micro-enterprise, enabling the community to raise an income by providing back-packers with reasonably priced accommodation, and there are more building and renovation opportunities in the area.
