WORSHIP

STORY

CHALLENGE!

Have a go at eating a lemon yourself! Can you eat it without screwing your face up?! Sometimes choosing ‘goodness’ is hard to do! 😆

“Josiah was eight years old when he became king. He did what the Lord said was right. He did good things . . . . Josiah did not stop doing what was right.”

2 Chronicles 34:1-2

THIS WEEKS FAMILY DEVOTION

"GOODNESS"

Grab your family and do this devotion together.

READ 2 Chronicles 34:1-2 and Proverbs 14:9 together

Questions for discussion

  1. Why was Josiah a good king? What made him ‘good’?

  2. Can you describe what it looks like when you are really good and do good things?

  3. When it is so easy to make wrong choices, how will we ever be able to become good?

  4. How does God show GOODNESS to us?

Key concepts

When we talk about ‘goodness’ it starts on the inside of each one of us. Goodness, or doing the right thing to do is something we all need to choose. And we need God’s help to choose it. In Luke 18:19 Jesus said “No one is good - except God alone.” The good news is that when we ask for God’s help, he comes and lives in us through the Holy Spirit!

Sometimes being good is easy. And sometimes being good is really hard! This is why we use Lucy Lemon as the ‘Goodness' fruit. Lemonade is really easy to drink, but straight lemon juice is not!

In the dictionary goodness is defined like this : friendliness, generosity, grace, honesty, kindness, integrity, mercy, value, honour, rightness. This week ask your whole family to focus on GOODNESS. With God’s help, we can all show goodness to each other.
