Itinerary

Featuring: Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Caesarea Maritima, Nazareth, Galilee, Mt Carmel, Golan Heights, Caesarea, Philippi, Samaria, Beit Shean, Qumran, Ein Gedi, Masada, Dead Sea, Bet El, Shiloh

Day 1: Monday 4 May 2020
Depart Auckland to Tel Aviv, Israel

Day 2: Tuesday 5 May 2020 - BD
Early morning arrival to Tel Aviv. Check in to your hotel by the Mediterranean Sea. Free time to visit the Carmel Markets, or take a walk along the Promenade. Overnight Tel Aviv.

Day 3: Wednesday 6 May - BD
Drive north along the coastal ‘Via Maris’ route to the Mediterranean port of Caesarea, site of Herod’s Palace, home of Cornelius and where Paul was brought to trial. Explore this extensive archaeological site including the Roman Aqueduct. Travel to Mt Carmel where Elijah challenged and defeated the Prophets of Baal. Continue through the Jezreel Valley to Tel Megiddo, a city of King Solomon, covering 26 layers of civilization. Our visit will include a walk through the Iron Age water system. Visit Nazareth Village, where lifestyle in the time of Jesus is recreated. Overnight Galilee.

Day 4: Thursday 7 May - BD
A time of reflection and praise as we sail on the Sea of Galilee on board a boat crafted in the ancient design of the time of Jesus. Disembark at Nof Ginosar Kibbutz to view the remains of a 2,000-year-old fishing boat. Stand on the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount. Visit the ruins of Capernaum, the home of Jesus as well as the apostles Peter, Andrew, James and John and the tax collector Matthew. Celebrate the miracle of multiplication at Tabgha on the shores of the Sea. Drive up to the Golan Heights. From Mt Bental there is a spectacular view into Syria. Caesarea Philippi at the headwaters of the Jordan River and base of Mt Hermon, is remembered as the location where Peter confessed Jesus as the Messiah. Overnight Galilee. St Peter’s Fish Dinner at Decks Restaurant.

Day 5: Friday 8 May - BD
Before leaving the Galilee region visit Yardenit baptismal site by the Jordan River. Our journey takes us south through the fertile Jordan Valley to the Roman Decapolis City of Beit Shean. Due to Beit Shean’s strategic location at the junction of the Jezreel and Jordan River Valley’s, it has held great historical and Biblical importance. The bodies of King Saul and three of his sons we hung on the city walls. Visit Bethany on the Jordan where Jesus was Baptised by John and crossing point of the Israelites into the Promised Land. Next stop is Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Overnight Dead Sea.

Day 6: Saturday 9 May - BD
Take a dip in the medicinal waters of the Dead Sea! Transported by cable car we ascend to the mighty fortress of Masada, Herod’s winter palace and the site of the last heroic resistance of a small band of Jews, against the Roman occupation. Enjoy far-reaching views of Jordan, the Rift Valley and the Dead Sea. Walk through the Ein Gedi National Park to the falls which became a refuge from King Saul for David. Ascend the Mountains of Israel up to the City of God, Jerusalem. From the Haas Promenade take in the panorama of the Old and New Cities. Overnight Jerusalem.

Day 7: Sunday 10 May - BD
In Bethlehem, the city where Jesus and King David were born, we visit Manger Square and the Church of the Nativity. Celebrate the birth of the Saviour of the World in the caves of the Shepherd’s Fields. Visit Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum and Memorial to the 6 million Jewish lives taken in the Holocaust. Photo stop at the Knesset Menorah. View the Dead Sea Scrolls housed in the Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum. The ¼ acre Scale Model of Jerusalem, including the Temple, as it appeared during the time of Jesus provides perspective on the layout of the Old City. Follow in the footsteps of Jesus from Ghandi Lookout on the Mount of Olives, down the Palm Sunday Walk, past Dominus Flevit to the Garden of Gethsemane and Church of All Nations. Enter the Old City through St Stephens Gate, also known as the Lion Gate. Following the Via Dolorosa, we visit St Anne’s, the Pool of Bethesda. Meander through the Via Dolorosa, picturesque bazaar streets passing the ‘Stations of the Cross’ to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre which archaeologist attest to be the most likely location of the Crucifixion. See the underground caves and Ethiopian Church. Refreshment awaits at the Middle East’s oldest Protestant Church, the Christ Church, where we visit the synagogue orientated Chapel and learn of the history of Christ Church. Tonight, we will be treated to dinner in the Armenian Quarter of the Old City and a Sound and Light Spectacular at David’s Citadel. Overnight Jerusalem.

Day 8: Monday 11 May - BD
A day in Samaria with perhaps a chance encounter with the community of the Samaritans who live on Mount Gerizim till this very day. From the lookout on the Biblical Mount Gerizim, Mount of Blessings across to Mount Ebal, Mount of Cursing, view the area of Ancient Shechem, the Tomb of Joseph and Jacob’s Well, known for the encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman. The Tabernacle stood at Shiloh for 369 years before the children of Israel brought the Tabernacle up to Jerusalem. Walk through the ancient excavations of Biblical Shiloh and visit the exposition “Until Shiloh Comes”. Explore Bet El, a sacred place, visited by Abraham, named by Jacob, conquered by Joshua and where the Ark of the Covenant rested for a time. Overnight Jerusalem

Day 9: Tuesday 12 May - BD
Start the day early with a visit to the Temple Mount (security permitting)
Explore the Biblical City of David where archeology confirms the Bible. Wade through the water tunnel engineered by King Hezekiah exiting at the Pool of Siloam. A head torch and sandshoes would be helpful in this subterranean passage. Other locations of Biblical Archaeological interest to be visited are: Davidson Centre, Huldah Gates, Southern Steps of the Temple. Spend time at the Kotel, or Western Wall, Judaism’s most holy site. Stroll along the Cardo the ancient colonnaded Roman Road through the Old City and view the remains of city walls from the time of Hezekiah. The Burnt House will provide insight into life in this quarter of the City during the time of Jesus. Our day is completed with a visit to the Garden Tomb. This ancient cemetery is a moving site where we recall the crucifixion and burial of Jesus. Time in these peaceful garden surroundings in prayer, song, fellowship and communion. Overnight Jerusalem.

Day 10: Wednesday 13 May - BD
The day is free for you to explore Jerusalem independently or relax and enjoy your hotel's facilities. Prepare for departure at around 3pm. Farewell dinner and transfer to Ben Gurion Airport for your flight home.

Day 11: Thursday 14 May
In Flight.

Day 12: Friday 15 May
Morning arrival home with a new understanding of the Hebraic roots of the Christian Faith and Israel’s prophetic central position in the Modern World.

The cost for our Curate Israel Encounter is $3985USD, which is roughly $6000NZD depending on the current conversion rate.


Inclusions:

Flights with Thai Airlines & El Al Israel Airlines Auckland/Tel Aviv Return, with one suitcase. *Based on current airfares and subject to change or increase until flights are booked and paid for.


Shared room accomodation at 3-4 star hotels.

Early Check-In with Breakfast on arrival day, 5th May.

Late Check-Out with special farewell dinner on departure day 13th May.

Arrival and departure transfers to Ben Gurion Airport to coincide with the El Al Israel Airlines arrival flight times.

To secure your place on the Curate Israel Encounter Tour, you will need to pay a $600NZD deposit. The final balance will be due by the 4th of March 2020.

Joel & Katie have also hand-picked our guide, from their previous Israel trip.

Keshet Journeys’ NZ Travel Agent Trish Cortizo from Olive Tree Travel will be overseeing all administration for our trip, including payments and booking flights.
